Angel Beach Fiji. Pontoon anchored into the seabed with Hulk Earth Anchors.

AR&R’s HULK Park’ headquarters at Somersby, in New South Wales, are shared with a family of platypus. But it was a very different creature, which commanded attention at the Sydney Festival back in 2014.

HULK Percussion Anchors Got Into The Act At The Sydney Festival

Giant duck anchored with Hulk Earth Anchors on the Parramatta river for the Sydney Festival.

AR&R worked with the head contractor, ASO Marine Consultants Pty Ltd, to secure the giant inflatable Rubber Duck by Dutch artist, Florentijn Hofman, which had to float majestically up the Parramatta River. By `giant’, it was 5 stories tall, 5 stories wide and weighed approximately 15 tons. Of course, AR&R was not out for this duck.

Site challenges included installing HULK HG100 percussion anchors underwater at an average depth of 3 metres. In addition over 3 tons of load had to be achieved in the miscellaneous fill that makes up the Parramatta River. All this while ensuring that the fauna and flora was kept intact. The anchors were installed using a punt, which AR&R launched off the edge of the river.

Hofman’s Rubber Duck, which has floated in various cities around the world, is a bit of a troublemaker but in true HULK Style, the giant duck was tamed to delight spectators of all ages throughout the festival..

That bright yellow duck has now sailed home but the real life platypus family is digging in at HULK Park. This is Anchoring Rope & Rigging’s headquarters and also all the space needed for clients to become site ready and learn how to get the best from HULK Earth Anchors.

Attention To Detail Makes HULK Earth Anchors Unbeatable

The chisel shaped nose of the anchor, offers superior strength and is the ideal proportion for anchor installations, while the hex body of the anchor, allows for a smaller profile when driving the anchor into the ground. This facilitates a smoother and more rapid installation process than other earth anchors.

The angled surfaces of the HULK allows for improved bearing capacity, while larger frustum cones enhance general holding performance. Other features include a widened scoop on the tail of the anchor, which rotates the anchor into a load bearing position more reliably and over shorter distances. This allows for reduced anchor driving depths and quicker installation and proof testing times.
